On Thursday 19th September, Greengates hosted an engaging college fair with representatives from various universities around the world, providing our students with an exceptional opportunity to explore their higher education options.
This special issue aims to help you navigate these opportunities by featuring strategies to maximize your future fair experiences, providing you with insights on prestigious colleges, and guiding you towards selecting the right path for your future.
Year 13
-
Although you've been granted early acceptance by the college prior to receiving your final IB scores, this doesn't mean you can ease up on your studies. Your final IB results remain crucial, and poor performance in your exams could lead to a revocation of your acceptance. Despite the offer, the college retains the right to withdraw it if your final grades do not meet their standards, potentially jeopardizing your enrollment.
Year 12
-
Aim at achieving high GPA( above 4.0 is required when applying to top-tier universities)
-
Manage your CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) activities.
-
Very important to manage your EE and IA. It influences your IB scores. Later on, when applying to universities, you can use EE and IA to write essays.
-
Aim at achieving high IB score (minimum 37 points are required when applying for top-tier universities)
Year 11
-
Aim at achieving a superior IGCSE final score.
-
Seriously reflect on your choice of IB subjects. It is recommended to choose IB subjects that are associated with your career path.
-
Think about what you want to do for CAS so you don’t have to rush in Year 12 when you are supposed to concentrate on adapting to IB.
Year 10
-
Seriously reflect on your career choices.
-
If you have something in mind, look for universities that are known for majors that are associated with you career path
-
Look for the any general extra requirements for those universities (standardized test scores like SAT scores, interviews, portfolio, etc).
-
Make a brief long-term plan on how to achieve those requirements.
Finally, the college fair at Greengates proved to be a tremendous success, offering our students meaningful opportunities to connect with university representatives and explore a variety of educational pathways. As you reflect on the perspectives shared during the event, we encourage you to take proactive steps in your college search. Remember, the journey to higher education goes beyond merely selecting a school; it’s about discovering the right environment for your passions and goals.
We hope this issue provides you with the insights and inspiration to make thoughtful decisions about your future. Here’s to embracing new possibilities and pursuing your academic dreams!
